Poo-pooing the Social Contract

September 7, 2010

Those of you who have taken “Justice, Law, and Government” will appreciate this piece by Dr. Paul DeHart of Texas State University-San Marcos. Dr. DeHart argues that the construct of the social contract is illegitimate (“self-referentially incoherent”) and that Christians need to rethink the whole notion of authority. He borrows from Reformed thinkers and Aquinas to argue that Enlightenment knowledge should not be the only sort admitted into public debate.

It’s a bit long, but I think your patience will be rewarded with something to chew on.
